Anyone still playing RCT2?

Postby Metrock on Fri Aug 01, 2008 4:53 pm

I haven't played the game in ages. I'd guess it has been about 5 years. But as of late, with all the theme park trips, I have been in the mood to play it again. Maybe I'll actually finish a park. I always would spend so much time tweaking everything.

Anyways, anyone else out there still playing this version of the game? RCT3 was never my cup of tea.

I've actually been playing this the past couple days just to pass some time...the only thing that bugs me is that it seems like they took a step back instead of forward when RCT2 came out. There's so many things they could have improved on but made harder when it comes to gameplay.

Its like they pulled a Microsoft on us. Yeah, there's a lot of cooler coasters, but someone who had been playing RCT is now completely lost because even the simplest things have been moved. So now instead of worrying about playing the game, you gotta search for stuff that might not even be in the game anymore!

Like where the hell did the mute button go on the top of the screen?

The message or "announcement" button is gone too, and I always forget where they moved it.

Why do the grids go away when you're not in coaster building mode? And you can't even turn them on!

Most of the "movable" graphics are cheesy and cheap looking, I almost always demolish them. They dirty up the screen and make it harder to see what the hells going on. Also building stuff from scratch is practically impossible. I give them an F in this category.

Some parks you get have coaster options you can't change. For example I got stuck with a wood coaster with backwards trains and it won't let me switch the trains! So now I can only have 4 cars per train, and the rides not popular because I built it not knowing the riders were going to be riding backwards making it more intense.

I'll admit, I dig the 4-D coaster and Intamin Hyper style coaster, along with some of the trains that look much better (B&M Flyer, Goliath style trains). I also like the more custom track styles for some of the coasters (like the new banked drops). But the B&M Flying coaster doesn't have barrel rolls, and the 4-D coaster doesn't have helixes, or banked turns that drop.

So overall, I like it about as much as the original. Not a big fan of the flamboyant expansion packs for RCT2, but they give you more scenarios and I'm alright with that.

So to answer your question, yeah, I've been playing this a little bit again. But it hasn't hooked me nearly as much as the original RCT did.

Yeah I got back into it a few weeks ago and I'm pretty happy with the park I'm working on.
RCT3 is awful. RCT2 is the best.

Ok, well 9 months later (after starting this topic), I finally installed the game and checked out some of my old parks. I'm really pumped to start working on them again. I'll post screen shots at some point.
